Hermes Award: the jury appoints three solutions

Each year Deutsche Messe awards the Hermes Award, the industry’s leading international award, to a company whose product or solution demonstrates a particularly high degree of technological innovation. Only technological solutions that have already been tested in industrial practice are taken into consideration. “We are delighted to finally return to Hannover Messe after a break due to the pandemic and to be able to present a wide variety of innovations and solutions to the international industrial community. Three outstanding products have been nominated for the Hermes Award, “said Dr. Jochen Köckler, chairman of the board of Deutsche Messe.

Commenting on this year’s selection of candidates, the president of the jury and president of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, prof. Neugebauer, explained: “The Hermes Award is one of the key technology awards in the international industrial landscape. Also this year, the quality of the mailings, with their application-specific, efficient and user-oriented approaches to the solution was impressive. The task of the jury, made up of world-class international industry and technology experts, was equally challenging. I am convinced and delighted that we have been able to name three solutions that are excellent examples of innovative strength in their fields ”.

Bosch Rexroth, Lohr am Main, Germany: the first of three named projects, crtlX Core, represents a flexible and compact, modular, app-based control platform based on the Linux real-time operating system; it is freely configurable. This product facilitates the automation of industrial processes, as the use of standards and web-based engineering makes proprietary software installations unnecessary, thus reducing the barrier to entry for PLC programming. Additional benefits come from the integration of third-party apps and the ability to integrate AI.

Harting, Espelkamp, Germany: This nomination went to the Han-Modular Domino Module industrial connector, a further development of the existing standard, consisting of two modules that can be flexibly assembled by interlocking. The connector system transmits power, signals, data or compressed air. This means that, for the first time, electrical and pneumatic systems can be transmitted in a single module, thus significantly reducing the required plug connections, installation space and weight. Further savings are achieved through shorter assembly times.

Sumitomo Cyclo Drive Germany, Markt Indersdorf, Germany: The third named product, TUAKA, is a fully integrated drive for robotic applications and automation technology. New features include gearbox, engine and driver with safety functions. Thanks to sensor technology and thermal product management, it is suitable for sensitive, high-precision applications in service robotics and human interaction. The modular concept and modular systems allow for an application-specific configuration of the required hardware.
