Circuit Garden offers purely analog electronic sounds that mimic nature

Synthesizers serve several purposes, including allowing a person to compose music. It is mostly electronic music which others will probably say is not real music, but for many the combined notes create a beautiful melody. Kelly Heaton’s “Circuit Garden” is a project that will make us think about nature and enjoy electronic culture.

What you will hear are the birds chirping repeatedly. Also, there are different forms of birds singing other tunes. Chirping is not annoying, it offers a relaxing mood, if you like anti-stress music.

The Circuit Garden showcases machine intelligence combined with human nature. Bird-shaped boards aren’t the only elements of the circuit. Other forms mimic different behaviors and sounds of animals. Then, in addition to the birdsong, you will also hear the chirping of crickets and more.

The designer created analog electronic designs that generate realistic sounds. What you hear are not real birds. They are not even real recordings as everything is electronic. They are simply electrical vibrations of artificial origin.

Kelly Heaton wants more people to talk about nature alongside electronic culture. The designer focuses on electronic hardware. He wants to go basic with circuits as they are what allow digital media to exist.

Heaton thought in terms of energy, frequency and vibration as he learned from Nikola Tesla. He says his unique art explores different concepts by allowing those circuits to vibrate in natural patterns. Heaton explains that the “Circuit Garden pays homage to electric oscillation, especially the astable multivibrator, which is my favorite method for generating realistic waveforms.”

Heaton also describes his work as PCB birds. They are autonomous sound generators and are purely analog. There is no software or audio recordings used here.

The Circuit Garden is like a collection of synthesizers that produce near-natural sounds of birds and other insects. To change the quality of a song or sound, the resistance in the circuit is adjusted. The designer is reintroducing us to the beauty that analog hardware can offer. Creative electronics is a category that can still be explored further. We know it’s right there, but it takes a lot of effort to preserve the art.

There are many synthesizers available that produce beautiful electronic music. We have a few favorites here including those from Love Hultén: the foldable synthesizer, the EC1, and the TE-LAB. We understand that we will never live without music or sound effects, which is why we appreciate these synthesizers.
