COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – Emerging technology is driving a boom in new biotech business. The grand opening of Matica Biotechnology took place on Tuesday morning for a new facility in College Station.
Over the past decade, Bryan – College Station has become a hub for biotechnology in the state of Texas.
Matica Biotechnology has repurposed a building in College Station near the Academy. They will work with clients to help them with cell therapies, genes, vaccines and genetic medicines.
Nearly 20 biotech companies or organizations now call our community home.
“Today we would like to show you something of what happens beyond these doors. How Matica Bio is able to bring our customers’ innovation from the idea to the product. From the lab to the patient bed, ”said Andrew Arrage, Chief Commercial Officer of Matica Biotechnology.
Company leaders say Aggieland was the best place to expand their business.
“College Station has really provided us with all of these components and we are really proud of it and are using it as a stepping stone to go to other places and of course expand here,” said Dr. Jin Kim, board member of Matica Biotechnology and advisor.
College Station Mayor Karl Mooney said more is on the way.
“This will continue to grow. There are already locations for Matica in both cities, so this is the important thing to keep in mind. This has really allowed us to be designated as the biomedical area for the State of Texas, ”Mooney said.
“This is one of the advantages that Brazos Valley has is this talent pipeline with the university, the wonderful residents who live in the Brazos Valley. They see the potential and the partnership and this is really going to be a long-lasting partnership, ”said Matt Prochaska, President and CEO of Brazos Valley Economic Development Corporation.
Company officials explained that technological advances have helped the field grow so much.
“We are improving in being able to translate this type of new technology. New technologies in some of the diseases that are truly some of the worst we have faced. Cancer, childhood diseases and things like that, so this really is the impetus for the great growth you’re seeing now, ”Arrage said.
New jobs here are also higher paying, the average salary is around $ 80,000 per year.
